words work the best with an argumentative essay as long as the thesis or topic sentences forms an opinion. You text shows verbs that use linking verbs (verbs of the infinitive to be) forming an opinion, which is acceptable also for personal experience essays. Forming an opinion is a must in the thesis and in the topic sentences. Write a five-paragraph essay. See table of Contents, “Skeleton of ….” in E238. Here is a reminder of the definition of a thesis and topic sentences:
Definition of a thesis and topic sentence: A simple sentence with one controlling idea. The controlling idea should come after the verb, and there should be no clauses after the controlling idea.
A simple sentence is a sentence that has only ONE VERB and ONE SUBJECT with their modifiers. May have phrases, if applicable, but no clauses (subordinate or subordinate conjunctions).
Also, please remember to highlight your in text citations in the body of the essay. In addition check your thesis and topic sentences for opinion statements. Highlight the opinion word in each of the topic sentences and the thesis. Also, don’t forget to include the works cited page. In addition, I expect three to five in text citations in the paper. Do not use the encyclopedia or Google-type to search for general topics as one of your main sources. Use only library sources or hard-copy sources.
