Pollution

1- From a developmental standpoint how might we explain Laura’s preoccupation with her appearance?

From a developmental standpoint, Laura is at stage of development that Erikson defined as identity vs. role confusion. At Laura’s age students are trying to find their self and figuring out their identity. Laura cares how her peer’s view her and she wants to be identified as attractive not look like a “geek” because “geek” is a negative label. She concerned about social aspects the educational.

2- From Piaget’s perspective, in which stage of cognitive development is Laura?
3-
According Piaget, Laura is at Formal operational stage, which involves an increase in logic. She believes getting rid of gasoline as a potential solution for pollution. She believes that gasoline is a contributor to pollution. That means she use deductive reasoning.

The Reflection:

Laura seems to concern about how other view her and this is normal behavior in her age. Because she is in as identity vs. role confusion development stage that searching for her identity and the physical appearance is one of the identity aspects. Feeling confidence about your physical appearance help to get higher self-esteem. When Laura has confidence that she is attractive and other see her like then she will have a higher self-esteem.
On anther hand, I like when s. Watkins asked her” o you like people looking at you, Laura?” because her answer show that she know what want. Also, the way that he respond and explain for her about having attention; and how he guided her to improve and learn thinking and social skills by joining to Mr. Marculescu
