Individual Coursework Assignment (2)
Submission Due: 30th March 2016 at 12noon
The coursework comprises of 20% of the overall assessment for the Advanced Corporate Finance course. You must submit
a printed copy of your assignment to the Business School hand-in boxes on the 2nd floor of the Edward Wright building AND
submit a copy of the assignment via Turnitin (accessed via MyAberdeen). Printed copies of the assignment must be
accompanied with an assignment submission coversheet, which will be available on MyAberdeen. All of the assignment
material must be prepared individually.
The assignment must be no more than 2,000 words. Any diagrams/tables/equations must appear in the body of the
assessment and do not count towards the word limit. A separate front cover (with your student ID, title of assignment and
word count must be included but must not contain your name) and finally, a reference list should be submitted at the end
of the assignment but is not included in the word limit.
All submissions MUST be typed in MS Word using Times New Roman 12 point font and double line spacing (please PRINT
single sided). Page margins should be set to ‘normal’ on MS Word. All pages should be numbered consecutively. A full
bibliography/reference list should be submitted at the end of the report following the Harvard Referencing System. See the

Penalties for failing to adhere to these guidelines will be applied at the discretion of the marker.
If you are late in submitting the project you will incur the following late penalties:
 One CGS grade per day (this includes weekends).
 After 7 days, students will be awarded the lowest mark possible, G3 (0%)
Non-submission of the assignment will result in a C6 and the student potentially being unable to complete the course. If you
are prevented from submitting the assignment through illness or personal circumstances, you must inform the course
coordinator as soon as possible and submit the relevant Absence Reporting on MyAberdeen.
Feedback on this piece of assessment will be provided as outlined by the relevant university guidelines.

Identify what is meant by ‘financial distress’ and provide an overview of the
approaches taken in the academic literature in relation to this concept.

Critically evaluate the following view: “Altman’s Z-score approach provides us
with all we need to know in this area, therefore alternative approaches are
surplus to requirements.”
