Agent Provocateur fashion research

ASSESSMENT AND PROJECT BRIEF

You are to place yourself in the role of a researcher in ‘fashion product futures’. You have been asked by a fashion brand or company to write a fully referenced report to research and critically evaluate the influences and likely opportunities for their company over the next five years. The company want you to acknowledge the crucial role of their key iconic fashion products, especially in terms of their supply chain and associated ethical issues. You are to choose the company from the list provided in this unit handbook: Agent Provocateour

You should select a product category with which it is strongly associated. This will be part of your primary research.

The rationale for asking you to do this is so that you can consider real world issues in the future, such as the supply chain relating to that product, what practical effects technology will have on this product and what are the technological opportunities for that product. It could be that the product would have the opportunity to go high tech with embedded electronics for example, or seek ‘indexical authenticity’ by being made in the original factory with long unchanged techniques of manufacture.

The unit aims to allow you to explore the impact of rapidly changing fashion trends, the volatility of consumer behaviour and the effect of technology that can lead to the demand for new fashion products and services from fashion businesses that have an established iconic speciality. The companies we have selected for you are closely associated with particular types of clothing that often have their own supply base. Unlike retailers who can switch product types and sourcing on demand, these companies have to remain true to their companies values by development of their iconic fashion lines.
