23. Alcoholism
Reflect on times you have cared for a patient who was suffering from alcohol withdrawal syndrome. The abuse of alcohol is extremely prevalent in our society, and the practicing nurse is likely to encounter this routinely. What sort of feelings or judgments do you make about such patients? Do you believe that alcoholism is based in weakness of character, or a physiological disease? How does your obligation increase as the primary RN in charge of the care of such patients?
