Assignment 2: Lab Report

Assignment 2: Lab Report
This lab report must be done and submitted individually. Answering the questions, you should not copy the sentences from the books or any other resources. You should use your own words. There should not be any significant similarity between your answers and the others. Otherwise you will get zero for this assignment.

Submissions submitted after the due date will receive a maximum grade of 50%. Assignments/projects submitted more than one week after the due date will receive a grade of zero but be shown as being submitted and will be marked for feedback purposes.

Upon successful completion of this lab, the student will be able to:
• List the procedure and equipment used during tensile testing of different material.
• Determine the mechanical properties of two different material to be tested (i.e. aluminum and steel) in order to establish effectiveness and behavior of the material when a stretching force acts on it. The mechanical properties to be determined are modulus of elasticity, proportional limit, yield strength, ultimate strength and stress at fracture of aluminum and steel.
Measurements before test on steel

L=176mm.

W=13mm

t=13mm. t x h = cross sectional area

h=4mm
After test

L=179mm.

W=13mm

t=11mm. t x h =new cross sectional area

h=4mm
Measurements on aluminum before test

L=167mm.

W=13mm

t=13mm. t x h = cross sectional area

h=3mm
After test

L=179mm.

W=13mm

t=11mm. t x h =new cross sectional area

h=4mm
