Purpose of this assessment

This unit focuses on the effective and efficient planning and management of business work activities. It gives learners with understanding and skills needed to design and implement operational systems to improve their

effectiveness and efficiency and achieve the desired results for the business. Learners are encouraged to consider the importance and interrelationship of business processes and the implementation of operational plans, together

with quality systems and health and safety, in achieving satisfactory results.

Scenario

The Juicy Chicken Restaurant produces and sells a number of different types of chicken meals. The Juicy Chicken Restaurant was set up 25 years ago and was running very successfully. The brand name has been established.

However, due to the increase in the competition in the recent years, it starts to lose the revenue. In order to maintain a profit, various actions have been taken to control the costs, e.g. cutting the budgeting on employees’ training

and using relatively cheaper suppliers. As the chicken preparation machines are getting old, the breakdown time has increased significantly. The owners are reluctant to replace the old machines with new ones as it could increase

the costs. Recently, the Juicy Chicken Restaurant has received more complaints on the quality of the meals. One customer has even sued the Juicy Chicken Restaurant for causing food poisoning and the Juicy Chicken

Restaurant has incurred significant legal costs. The Juicy Chicken Restaurant has been inspected by the regulatory authority and received a warning that health and safety policies must be implemented. The owners are keen on

implementing the new systems and enhancing the quality culture to achieve better results. As the Juicy Chicken Restaurant prepares food, owners are particularly concerned with the compliance on the relevant regulation.
