CONDUCTING INTERVIEWS

The most effective way to learn to conduct interviews is to begin to conduct them yourself. In this Hand-in Assignment, you analyse the use of interviews to research phenomena as well as assess your own interview skills. For this assignment, you research “Drug addiction”. Choose two individuals to interview. Use this phenomenon for both interviews and record the interview.
Note: You will not be collecting or analysing any data/information collected during these interviews. The purpose of these interviews is ONLY to practise your interview skills as a researcher and to transition from being a caring health care professional to an objective researcher.
Assignment:
• Interview the first individual and record the interview. After the first interview, assess your interviewing skills. Note where you could make improvements or change a technique to become a more effective interviewer.
• Apply the changes you have identified to the next interview.
• Interview the second individual and record the interview.
• Describe your experience of conducting both interviews.
• Explain what you identified from the first interview that could be revised, and explain how you applied that revision to the second interview.
• Explain whether the second interview was more effective based on your revisions.
Note: To prepare for this Discussion, review this week’s Learning Resources.
