Write about how conflict can be present even when all parties are in agreement with one another. Such as the theory of Groupthink. Consider the conflict with the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster and those involved. Using the five step conflict resolution model discuss how the disaster may have been avoided. Given the facts of the case what may have been an Alternative resolution that could have prevented the tragedy. Explain groupthink and how it can cause conflict.
1.With your assigned group, choose and then clearly define the scope of a corporate or business conflict based on the requirements of this project. As a group you will need to decide on which conflict you will use as a basis for your project.
2.Follow these instructions below to complete your paper, which is due in Workshop Five.
3.You will write an eight page paper that should describe and analyze a negotiation or conflict from a business environment.
a.The key model for the paper is the five step conflict resolution model covered in the course integrating all the principles learned in all workshops.
Step One: Assessing the Situation
? Don’t react. Step back from the conflict. Take time to think about the conflict and what is happening.
? Identify all the parties to the conflict.
? What are the sources and triggers of the conflict?
? The various styles of conflict management used by the various parties.
? What if any, power, diversity, or emotional issues present?

Step Two: Clarifying the Problem Practice direct communication: speaking to the persons in the conflict, not about him/ her/ them.
? Use active listening skills in order to define and clarify issues in the conflict: paraphrasing, “I” statements, supportive confrontation
? Attack the problem, not the person.

Step Three: Define Interests and Finding Common Ground
? Avoid taking positions and giving ultimatums.
? Explore and define what it is that you and the other persons really need. In meeting the other person’s needs, you are more likely to have your own needs met as well.
? Seek common ground in the conflict: what are the mutual concerns/ interests
Step Four: Generating Options
? Brainstorm and generate multiple options- invent first, decide later
? Focus on the future, the past cannot be changed, explore what it is that each person needs to move on.
? Look for a mutually beneficial solution- a win-win outcome.

Step Five: Decision Making and Implementation
? Establish objective criteria collaboratively to select the best option.
? Make decision and discuss method and details of implementation.
? Follow up.

b.Alternative resolutions and recommendations on how the conflict could have been handled differently must be included.
c.There must be evidence of scholarly research and practical application of principles learned during this course.
d.Students may choose a domestic or international corporate conflict that is currently or recently in the media or an internal conflict experienced through work.

4.Both form and content will be graded, so be certain you use proper grammar, sentence structure and syntax, correct punctuation, and spelling. Keep in mind that your insights are much more important than rehashing what the text says.
