Creative Writing Exercise Type: Creative Synthesis

Creative Writing Exercise Type: Creative Synthesis

Creative/reflexive piece considering the ways in which memory and history interact in our own biographies and how narrative styles shape the way a story is received by an audience.
Choose an event or scene out of your own life, about which you have available evidence at hand, and create two accounts in different narrative styles. Both accounts should be credibly based on a real incident but from contrasting perspectives. The aim is to convey different understandings of the same event and evidence through applying alternative narrative styles. For example, you might choose an ominscient (all-seeing) authorial voice for one of the accounts, and a much more subjective, first-person narrator for the other. You can experiment with dialogue, a transcript of evidence, diary or other formats.

Criteria & Marking:
Each account should be between 500 and 750 words, ie no more than 1,500 in total.
Please submit to your tutor before the end of Week 6. Marked assessment items will be handed back in class.
