Critical Review

Weight: 30% Word limit: 1,000 words (excluding references)

This assessment is designed to make you think critically about what you read and to develop your ability to summarise a long text in a short space. This skill is one that is valuable outside of academic study; many jobs require summary reports to be written or ideas to be communicated in a restricted space.
write an essay that both describes and critiques the article. If you wish you can split it into two sections: a summary in which you describe the aims, method, results and conclusions of the article; and a review section in which you compare the article with other relevant reading and theory. If you are confident in your academic writing and feel you can achieve the summary and criticism with a more fluid structure, this is fine. Regardless of which approach you take you must use no more than 1000 words (excluding your reference list).

Grading

This assessment is weighted as 30% of your grade for the unit.

Your critical review will be graded according to the following criteria:
1.Content: Does the work fully describe the article in an accurate and coherent manner?
2.Critical Thinking: Does the work show thinking and discussion that is based upon the consideration of a range of reading, showing a clear line of reasoning?
3.Style: Is the work written in an appropriate academic style?
4.Presentation: Is the work free from spelling and grammar errors? Has the word limit been respected?

Note that these criteria are used as guide on what a good critical review should look like, and you will receive feedback in how you have performed in each of them, however, the grade you receive is based upon how the Critical Review is judged as a whole.
