Data visualization, artist’s statement, and annotated bibliography.

Total points:  150 (Parts I, II, and III)
Part I:  Data VisualizationWe’ve talked about Dear Data this semester, the year-long project of two data visualizers to send each other a weekly themed hand-drawn image.  Now it’s your turn!
For the visual component of the final assignment, you must compose a data visualization modeled after Giorgia’s and Stefanie’s.  The theme is up to you!  Important:  If you choose one of their themes, please make sure that yours is different enough.  In other words, don’t use their data visualizations as templates, but instead use them as models.
The data visualization has to be hand-drawn.
You will have two parts of this data visualization on two index cards:• One index card with the data visualization.• The other index card with the key/legend of the data visualization.o See Giorgia’s and Stefanie’s models.
The reason for the two index cards is that we will be displaying your data visualization, and a two-sided card is not conducive to a gallery presentation.

Delivery method:  Hard copy brought to the final.  No digital copy needed, so you do not need to scan or take a photo and upload.
Part II: Artist’s StatementThe rhetorical situation and genre conventions of the author’s/artist’s statement are found on pages 234-241 of your BBG, but the sample is longer than you have to write.  Yours should be about 1-2 pages.
In it, you will do the following:• Discuss a specific composition: Your Dear Data image• Address your readers directly:  Your classmates• Explain how you followed genre conventions: The Dear Data genre is a data visualization• Discuss your specific rhetorical situation and related choices made in designing the example of the genre, data visualization• Reflect on your composition: metacognition
You won’t need to have any outside sources. You need to explain the symbols and the colors, etc. in your artist’s statement.  As your BBG explains, think of an artist’s statement like a DVD commentary of a film.  You are telling your audience about your rhetorical moves.
Delivery method:  Digital copy uploaded to D2L before the final, and hard copy brought to class.

Part III: Single-Source Annotated Bibliography
Everyone picked a number from a hat, and this random selection gave you your assigned text for part III.  All of these links are to secondary sources about Dear Data.  Your assignment will be to compose a one-entry annotated bibliography, similar to what you did for SWA #7, but with just one source.
You will compose an MLA citation, and you will write a paragraph after the citation, a paragraph in which you will summarize the text, and most importantly, analyze the rhetorical situation.  Remember that all the texts are about Dear Data, so you need to go beyond “This article is about Dear Data.”  What type of article is it?  Who is the audience?  What is the genre?  What media?  What modes?  Also, make sure your MLA citation adheres to the conventions of the documentation style.
Delivery method:  Digital copy uploaded to D2L before the final, AND hard copy brought to class.
For your final exam presentation, you will tell the class about your image, and briefly discuss your artist’s statement.  Then you will present to the class your annotated bibliography (Part III), displaying the text on the overhead projector.  Be prepared to field questions from the audience.
