Using your source worksheet and best writings skills, create a rough draft (500-600 words) based on the assignment.
Create a new thread with your last name in the title and post your rough draft, as an attachment, in .doc, .docx, or .rtf format.
Begin by spending some time searching for articles in the library databases. Visit this link for help finding sources.
Before you begin writing your essay, you should have four to five credible sources. At least three should be academic journals from library databases, such as Academic Search Complete, Springer eJournal Collection, and Science in Context, which provide scholarly research from scientific journals. The remaining sources may be from local news media, which is also available, through library databases like NewsBank’s Florida Newspapers edition.
Remember to keep your research as local as possible, but in some cases, you may have to widen the net slightly to gather some national statistics or comparisons from other cities/states/countries in order to help situate or contextualize your arguments. This search outside the local area, however, should NOT make up the bulk of your research.
Documentation should be in APA style. You can retrieve APA citations from the databases, but double check them against APA resources. Good resources for APA style include Purdue OWL, SPC’s Guide on Citations, or APA Style Home. Ask your instructor whether s/he would like a cover page and/or abstract.
