Directions: Now that you have selected one of the following groups: types of television series. In your Classification Essay, you will divide your general group into to smaller sub-groups or categories using a principle of classification as the controlling idea of your thesis statement.
Remember, however, that you are not simply describing tv series, but are grouping that general topic into smaller groups or categories that reflect you chosen principle of classification.
Make sure that before you begin writing your essay, you have clearly identified in your working thesis statement what the general group that will be the topic of your essay and, more importantly, have determined the principle of classification that you will use as the basis for the categories you will classify that larger group under.
The essay must strictly adhere to the Modern Language Association’s format for writing papers listed below.
The outcomes that the essay will be measured against are the following:
• Write an expository essay appropriate for college-level work using the writing process
• Support, develop, and ultimately prove a clearly stated and limited thesis
• Be unified and coherent
• Be free of grammatical and mechanical error
• Adhere to the MLA format for writing papers.

MLA Style and Paper Format Requirements
• Format papers for 8.5 x 11-inch pages double-spacing the entire document. Do not leave any additional spaces anywhere in your paper.
• Leave only one space after periods or other punctuation marks.
• Use 1-inch margins on all sides.
• Indent the first line of paragraphs one half-inch from the left margin.
• Create a running header that includes your last name, space, and the Arabic number of each page consecutively in the upper right-hand corner, one-half inch from the top and flush with the right margin. Do not create a title page for your paper unless specifically requested.
• In the upper left-hand corner of the first page only double-spaced, list your full name, your instructor’s full name, the course, and the date.
• Double space and center the title. Do not underline, italicize, or place your title in quotation marks. Use capitalization for all major words, but do not place your title all in capital letters.
• Use italics when referring to titles of other complete works, such as books and plays, but use quotation marks for titles of essays, stories, poems, etc.
• Double space between the title and the first line of the text.
