1. Write a succinct brand mission statement that best describes your brand and products.
Remember that a strong mission statement will direct the strategic decisions for the brand and will answer the important questions of “why are we in business and what kind of business are we in?” (on page 41 in your eText you can see an example of the Nike Mission Statement and you can click on the “Mission Statements for Fashion Brands” link posted in Required Resources.) Please create your own Mission Statement thoughtfully.

2. Develop a logo (and color scheme) that best captures your brand.
Remember that an effective logo should:
• Be memorable
• Be easy to identify and recognize
• Provide an appropriate and consistent image of the brand
• Communicate the brand’s personality
• Work well across media (design should work well for black and white as well as color publications)

Brands are intended to have long lives. Throughout their life cycles, they may need to grow, be relaunched or revitalized in order to compete and survive.
Read the article “How Designer Chris Benz Is Making Bill Blass Cool Again” posted in Course Material, Required Resources. Be sure to click on the link (here or in the article) to view the new website for this relaunched brand. (To view some of the original Blass looks, click here or feel free to research additional resources.)
How would you describe the personality of the new brand? Do you feel that Chris Benz has achieved innovation and consistency in the new Bill Blass brand? That is, is the new brand in tune with today’s times? Is it in sync with today’s customers’ needs? Is it relevant and competitive in today’s marketplace?
As many consumers may have pre-conceived images of the Bill Blass label, what would you do to attract new (or old) customers to the new Bill Blass brand?
