Fundamental Motor skills

Assignment 3:

Fundamental motor skills are the building blocks of motor behavior throughout the lifespan.
Find a 4-11 year old child and spend a minimum of 45 minutes with that child in a physical activity setting observing a variety of their motor skills. (Active participation with that child is recommended – in other words watching the child while sitting to the side is not recommended. Additionally – it is not acceptable to watch children you do not know at the park or another venue).
Write a report detailing the age and gender of the child and describe where they are in their motor development based on what you observed of their motor skills. (Observations may be done with partners or in small groups – but all assignments must be submitted individually).

You need to describe and assess 3 of the following FMS
– Locomotion:
• Running – (Locomotion)
• Hopping – (Locomotion)
• Jumping – (Locomotion)
• Leaping – (Locomotion)
• Walking – (Locomotion)
• Galloping – (Locomotion)
• Sliding – (Locomotion)
• Skipping – (Locomotion)
– Object Control Skills:
 Throwing – (Object Control)
 Catching – (Object Control)
 Striking – (Object Control)
 Kicking – (Object Control)
 Punting – (Object Control)
– Bimanual Control:
• Standing Long Jump – (B): stability

Choose one of each of the categories above [for example, jumping, catching, standing long jump] and one complex movement [for example: running and kicking a ball at the same time or running while throwing a ball]] and describe in what stage the child is and where the child is in his/her motor development based on what you observed of their motor skills.

The assignment is to be 3-4 pages (3 page minimum, 4 page maximum – not including title page or references), double spaced, 1 inch margins, 12 pt font. A minimum of 1 peer reviewed reference (e.g. the text books don’t count) is required. Referencing must be done in APA style in both the text and the reference list.
