Health and Medicine

This is an easily documented Power Point presentation that is posted to a discussion board in Canvas!
Choose one (or more) of the topics from our book. Remember that you should incorporate as much of the information as possible from the chapter you choose into your project. When you take information from another source, ie: personal research or our book, you must state where you found the information. If you are uncomfortable with Power Point, or with documentation.. Be sure that your slides cover the information that you learned through your research and make the links to sociological information. After choosing your topic and getting it approved, you will volunteer some time with a community service or resource in your area. Observe sociology first hand and write your information based on a combination of the sociological information from class and your personal learning experience through the volunteer work you completed (a lot like your Annie paper.). Your project topic must be approved by your instructor. To make the best grade possible, make connections from what you observe to the sociological term/perspective you recognize. For example, you may see a student arguing with a teacher or principal. You will then state this observance as an example of a problem of early socialization within the child’s primary agent which may have led to a lack of respect for authority. When you finish, save your Power Point presentation and upload it to our Discussions page under Research Presentations.
Requirements:
1. 3-5 page Power Point slide presentation
2. Bibliography or Works Cited page-slide
***Print the guidelines for the Power Point on our class Modules page under Handouts or you may read them below.
This is a formal presentation, and it counts as an important assignment. It should be very “finished”…meaning well done!

Guidelines for Power Point Presentations:

Your grade will depend on the 1) professionalism of presentation in your Power Point, 2) the substance of information within the slides, and 3) the content and validity of sociological terms and theories you connect to your community observation. (By that I mean… does your example correctly fit the term or theory you tied it to.) Below, you will find some helpful information to guide you through your project.

Slide 1 – Please include your name, what chapter you were assigned, where you chose to do your observation, what you actually observed (a general overview), and why you are interested in your chosen subject.
Slides 2-4 – Discuss your observations using specific examples and connect those examples to the sociological information in your assigned chapter. (Much in the same way you connected the examples and information in your Annie paper.) You may also want to mention the names of sociologists attached to the theories you use.
Slide 5 – Summarize what you learned from doing the project. Was it helpful to you? Do you think you could use what you learned in your future career? If so, how? Please end your slide by thanking the specific person or agency which allowed you to conduct your observation. (In doing this, you are responsibly citing the source where you gained information.) You will also cite our book because you will use information from that source as well.
