1. In what ways is confidentiality both a safeguard and a threat in the spread of HIV/AIDS?

2. If an adolescent tests positive for HIV, should the laws regarding confidentiality be breached so
that parents can be informed of the diagnosis? Support your position for or against this idea.

Some studies on domestic violence have suggested that victims of violence (particularly women) are
often perceived as allowing themselves to be victimized. The prevailing attitude has been that victims
always have the option to leave.

If a woman contracts HIV as a result of being in a domestic violence situation, might she be blamed for
her illness? Might she blame herself for her illness?
