The Task
This is the first time in human history that four generations are employed in the workforce at any
one time. Organisations are facing challenges in relation to managing intergenerational
differences in the work place. Challenges include issues in regard to work design, talent attraction
and selection, retention and development, performance management and intergenerational conflict
(weeks 5-8). Your task is to write an argumentative essay illustrating whether you agree or disagree
with the statement above in italics. In your response you need to address appropriate theory using
textbook and academic resources(at least 8 academic journal article references)in making your case.
You may want to address the following points:
i. Are intergenerational difference overstated? If so, why?
ii. What strategies does an HRM manager need to consider in relation to work design, talent
attraction and selection, retention and development, performance management and
intergenerational conflict?
iii. Provide recommendations in relation to predicted generational differences.
