Informative Message

Assignment #4: Informative Message assignment (a 6% assignment) You are on the Public Relations team for the Engage Learning Conference, organized by The Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning (MACUL) taking place at Devos Place in Grand Rapids, MI. Specifically, you recruit and register conference participants, keeping them informed about the conference, and liaising with them regarding any questions that they may have about the conference schedule, logistics, and any other details with which they might need help. The response to the conference has been excellent. You currently have over 500 participants registered, with more than 250 of them paying the Full Conference rate of $195 and the 200+ students paying the $75 conference fee. In addition, you have over 200 single-day attendees registered for both the nonstudent and student rates ($145/$75). While the registration is not closed, you have decided to contact the current registrants with information about the conference. You plan to include information about the keynote speakers, details about the featured presenters, the location of the conference, and information about the accommodations. You also need to ensure that you receive full payment for the conference by February 23, after which the admission prices go up ($245/$100 students). The information for the conference can be found on the MACUL website, http://www.macul.org/, and you will be using the website as the key source of information in your letter. Also, if the conference fills up, you are considering making a waitlist, and those who do not pay their registration fee in a timely manner will lose their spot. There are some amazing speakers at the conference; experts in the fields of technology and learning. Keynote Speakers include: ï‚· Jamie Casap, Chief Education Evangelist, Google ï‚· Shannon Miller, Teacher Librarian and Education Consultant ï‚· Rushton Hurley, Executive Director, Next Vista for Learning You plan to include a list of area hotels and phone numbers with the mailing. Participants must understand that they need to make their own hotel reservations (and hotel costs are not included in the conference fee). You’ll also provide a full schedule for the conference and make sure they know about the hands-on workshops on Thursday and Friday, for which there is an extra fee. You’re excited about the upcoming conference, and you’re eager to be sure that everything runs smoothly.
