International Politics

As most of us are aware, politics have an enormous impact on all aspects of life, including social, financial, and educational opportunities. Depending on whether political parties can agree to compromise, there will either be a slow advancement of programs that serve the majority of the citizens or there will be a time of chaos when the wheels of the political system grind to a halt.

When companies enter the global community, they are eager to form partnerships with other companies in other countries. But it is important to remember that when that partnership occurs, there are two countries’ political systems to consider.  Sometimes this is easy. For example, countries of the European Union (EU) are strong political and trade allies of the United States and partnerships among these countries can be rather straightforward. But sometimes it is not so easy. China, Russia, and North Vietnam, for example, present challenges to trade with the United States. Their politics, laws, regulations, and cultures may be very different and thus might pose some challenges to a trade partnership. Also, many Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), formally part of the Soviet Union, are new to some form of liberal democracy and are still developing their trade laws and regulations.

  1. Discuss a current political conflict that one country is having with another and explain how that conflict may affect business between the two countries. (Remember, many scholars believe that countries that trade together don’t go to war with each other.)
  2. Canthe challenges be overcome considering all the issues, or should another country be selected?
