Investigative Analysis & Argument

As we continue our journey of exploring American culture through its obsession with fast food we realize our personal connections to the various issues stemming from this (globalizing) phenomenon. Our first major goal of this journey was to learn about the early stages of this “transition” to a fast food culture by “listening in” on the various ongoing conversations. Now it’s our opportunity to join the conversation and take this study further through investigative research, analysis, and well-developed academic writing.

Assignment Options

(1.) Use your developing idea chunks as foundation to compose a supported, well-developed

argument regarding the role of personal responsibility in the declining health of people

today.

(2.) Use your developing idea chunks to write a supported, well-developed argument regarding

today’s growing fast food culture. Your argument may take the form of a “mission”

statement that offers possible solutions to the ill-effects of the rise in fast food culture

(whether health, economic / agriculture, or social).

Remember:

• There are multiple sides to every argument so don’t limit yourself to one particular side. Feel free to expand your argument in directions less-traveled (e.g., you may argue FOR the fast food industry and the economic benefits it perhaps brings to struggling communities, etc.).

• Your essay must include a separate Works Cited or References page

• Use various (re)sources including class readings, outside texts, group presentation findings, online research, etc

• Use evidence to support your interpretations/claims/argument(s)

• We’re not here to prove but to persuade through the use of relevant evidence

• Research the bigger picture to enhance your interpretations of the smaller ones
