Now that you have read about research on well-being and that you have completed your data analyses, you are ready to write your APA style research report. To accomplish this task, simply follow the steps 1 to 16given to you below. Before you start, however, consider the following general instructions carefully:
– This assignment will allow you to produce a short, but realistic APA style manuscript. The following aspects of your work will be assessed:

• Spelling
• Grammar (e.g., sentence construction, verb tenses, agreement)
• Punctuation
• Vocabulary selection (precision, style)
• Clarity (concision, ideas presented coherently)
There are many resources available for those who wish to improve their writing skills. For example:
• The sixth edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association
• Sternberg and Sternberg (2010). The psychologist’s companion: a guide to writing scientific papers for students and researchers. An electronic version of this book is available at the Carleton Library.

Your final grade will consist of a mark for content (75% – i.e., your ability to follow steps 1 to 16) and a mark for writing (25%).
– This assignment is individual work, but collegial collaboration is encouraged. Hence, you may exchange drafts with other students in the class in an effort to improve your paper. Remember, however, that plagiarism constitutes a serious academic offence. For more on plagiarism, please consult the university calendar and the course outline.
– Once your assignment is completed, submit your work on CuLearn. Click on the appropriate laboratory link. Then, you will see a “Upload files” button. Click it. This action will lead you to another page that allows you to upload a file by clicking on a “Add…” button. When you click it, you will see a menu with different options including one called “upload a file”. When you click it, a button called “Choose File” will appear to the right of the label “Attachment:”. Clicking it will allow you to retrieve your assignment on your computer or your data storage device. Once your file appears in the field “File Name:”, click Open. Steps to complete the assignment
General. A partially completed APA style research report is available for download on the laboratory’s CuLearn page. As you will see, parts of the document have been replaced with red italicised text. This red text contains step-by-step writing instructions. In combination with the instructions given below, follow these steps carefully in order to produce a complete APA style research report. Replace the instructions with grammatically complete sentences. There should be no red text when you are finished.
1 – Start by formatting the document to follow prescribed APA style guidelines:
• Set your four margins to 1 inch(0.5 pt)
• Set line spacing at 2.0 (i.e., double line spacing) (0.5 pt)
• Set your font to Times New Roman and use 12 points (0.5 pt)
• Add a page number in the top right corner of the header(0.5 pt)
• Finally, on the top left corner of the header replace the text RUNNING HEAD with DELIVERING GRATITUDE(0.5 pt)
2–Follow the instructions in the research report and summarize the two articles that have examined the cultivation of gratitude. These articles were Lyubomirsky, Dickerhoof, Boehm, and Sheldon (2011) and Seligman, Steen, Park, and Peterson (2005). (4 pt)
3 – Write one or two sentences explaining how the two gratitude exercise studies differed in the number of gratitude letters written and whether or not they were delivered.(1 pt)
4 – State your hypotheses. One hypothesis should make a prediction regarding whether a single gratitude letter exercise will result in an increase in happiness regardless of whether or not the letter is delivered. A second hypothesis should predict whether delivering the letter will produce a greater increase in happiness than not delivering the letter. Do not forget that hypotheses consist of conditional “if-then” statements. Also, make sure to specify the directions of your hypotheses.(2 pt)
5–Follow the instructions in the research report in order to complete a description of the participants (2 pt)
6–Follow the instructions in the research report to complete the materials section. (2 pt)
7 – Follow the instructions in the research report to complete the procedure section.(2 pt)
8 – In your excel file, you conducted a t-test that compared the baseline SPANE scores of the two conditions. Write one sentence describing your results from this test.Your written presentation of your t-test should contain the information thatthe scores in one condition (M= ,SD =) did or didn’t differ from the scores in the other condition (M = , SD = ), t(INSERT DEGREES OF FREEDOM HERE) = INSERT T-TEST VALUE HERE, p = INSERT P-VALUE HERE (e.g., t(20) = 2.51, p = .17). 9 – Write a sentence that describes your first hypothesis. Write a sentence that states that your hypothesis was either supported, or not supported. Write a sentence that describes the results of the t-test that compared baseline and post-test SPANE scores in the delivery condition. [i.e., in the delivery condition, did SPANE scores increase significantly from baseline (M = , SD = ) to post-test (M= , SD =), t() = , p = ?] Write a sentence that describes the results of the t-test that compared baseline and post-test SPANE scores in the non-delivery condition. (4pt)
10 – Write a sentence that describes your second hypothesis. Describe how you calculated a difference score by subtracting baseline SPANE scores from post-test scores to examine this hypothesis. (1.5pt)
11 – Write a sentence that describes the results of your t-test on the difference scores between conditions.(1pt)
12 – Insert the bar graph that you created when you completed your Excel analyses into the manuscript. Then, create an appropriate figure caption as described in the report. Both the graph and the figure caption should appear centered on the same page. No text should appear the figure’s sides.(2pt)
13 -Follow the instructions in the research report to complete the first paragraph of the discussion section. (4pt)
14 – Follow the instructions in the research report to identify and discuss one possible limitation of the study. (4pt)
15 – Ensure that the references section begins on the top of a new page.(.5pt)
16 –Complete the References section. All references should be in the APA style. The full references for Seligman et al. (2005) and Lyubomirsky et al. (2011) can be found in one of the lab CuLearn pages. The full reference for Diener et al. (2009) is given in the SPANE test that you completed as part of the simulated experiment. Finally, usepsycINFOto find the 2013 article by Lyubomirsky and Layous in “current directions in psychological science”. Insert the reference into your manuscript. Format all citations to be double-spaced with a hanging indent. (1pt)
