Creating and Responding to messages

Use your favorite social media outlet (Facebook, Twitter, Google+ or a text discussion) and follow a couple of your conversations over the next couple of days.

Answer the following questions:

1. How is the listening process (hearing through responding) noted in the text impacted by conversations held via social media?

2. Copy an example of an original comment and another person’s response to the comment. (You could have started the conversation or someone else; meaning you could be the respondent).

a. What did the respondent say to indicate that they “heard” the other person’s message?

3. Copy an example of one of your original comments and response where you perceived that the other person wasn’t “listening” to what you originally posted.

a. What did the respondent say to make you believe that you were not heard?

4. Do you feel that other people are listening to you when you interact with them via social media? Why or why not?

5. Did you find that you still utilized any of the traditional forms of listening/non-listening and the same response styles in your online listening/communication experiences? Why or why not?
