Non Tariff Barriers

Non-Tariff Barriers to Trade (NTBs), also known as “Non-Tariff Measures (NTMs)” are trade barriers that lead to restriction on imports and exports of goods and services through mechanisms other than the imposition of tariffs. It occurs due to restrictions which are the result of the prohibition or certain market requirements. Thus, it makes imports and exports relatively expensive. Different measures in form of laws and policies are taken by the government to regulate and control the impact of foreign competition on domestic industries.
