ASSIGNMENT TASK. A: ‘PRINCIPLES AND VALUES IN HEALTH.’
This assessment consists of two components. Component 1 is a reflective essay worth 25% of the total module. Component 2 is a critical analysis essay worth 75% of the total module. To successfully pass the Module, you must achieve an overall pass mark of 40% for the module
This coursework assessment is designed to allow you to show how the following learning outcomes have been achieved:
1. Understand the concepts of health and health promotion
2. Understand the theoretical concepts of ethical theory
3. Critically discuss theoretical concepts of ethical theory in relation to health promotion
4. Explore and evaluate the principles and values that form the basis of health promotion practice and enquiry
5. Critically analyse health promotion, considering the way that value systems have shaped and continue to shape the development of health promotion
6. Locate own practice within current debates, exploring how value systems shape views of health promotion
7. Reflect on how views of health promotion develop and shift, thereby contextualising and deconstructing student’s own practices and beliefs
8. Present written work reflecting student’s own values and their development
9. Present written work synthesising research of literature and learning
10. Present written work reflecting on student’s own values and their development

Component 1
For this assessment you are required to submit a ‘reflective’ essay. Harvard System of referencing must be adhered to. You will need to show evidence of wider reading and citing of academic references. Please note: appendices /contents list/reference list are not to be included in word count.
Select three developments in the evolution of health promotion. Demonstrate how they relate to, and are important for, underlying principles and values of health promotion.

Component 2
Grade Standard of work
Between 0% – 39% Fail
Between 40% – 49% The question will be answered to a basic level and be largely descriptive.
Analysis will only include overtly obvious elements.
Between 50% and 59% The answer will reflect a reasonable understanding of the subject and be based on a reasonable level of research and analysis.
The assignment is well structured and includes accurate use of technical terminology and grammar.
Between 60% and 69% The answer will reflect a good understanding of the subject.
Analysis will be developed to a high standard and include insight, justification and critical thinking. A good level of preparation will be evident, with links to other areas.
Use of technical terms will be accurate and fluent and the assignment of a high standard.
Above 70% The answer reflects excellent understanding of the subject and includes detailed analysis, evaluation and justification based on wide research and preparation.
It reflects several perspectives, with critical approaches and linkages beyond the immediate subject area under discussion.
Presentation of the assignment will reflect a high level of academic rigour including attention to structure, grammar and use of technical terminology.

Health problems emerge for various reasons, and solutions are not always straightforward. In this context professional health promoters are best served by following ethical principles. Critically discuss specific ethical considerations that should be taken into account in reviewing the effectiveness of health promotion interventions in one of the topics below:
• HIV/AIDS
• Healthy eating
• Teen pregnancy
• Community development
• Smoking
• Obesity
• Physical activity
