•Trace the development of at least one branch of the U.S. military from the 18th through the 21st century.

In preparing to write this project, you should consider the following questions.

1.How did the U.S. Military progress from its inception through the 21st century?
2.What impact did each war have on the growth and development of the U.S. Military?

For your final project, you will write a research paper that focuses on the development and growth of the U.S. military from its inception through the 21st century. You will choose at least two conflicts from those you studied in this course, such as Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Civil War, Cold War, Vietnam, Desert Storm, etc. Write in detail their origins and contributions to the development of the U.S. Military and how these conflicts shaped a particular branch of the military. Please use specific examples to support your central themes. You may find it useful to compare and contrast the two groups that you choose.

Your paper should be 5 to 6 pages (1250-1500 words) long, excluding the title page and references, and should include the following:
•introduction and thesis statement
•body that develops your ideas and provides support for them
•conclusion that synthesizes the information you present and summarizes your main points
•6 – 8 references for outside sources in the format of an annotated bibliography (due in Module 6)

Your topic choice (the conflicts that you chose) and a draft outline will be due in Module 5. The topic summary and outline will be worth 5% of your final grade.

The annotated bibliography, due in Module 6, is also worth 5% of your grade.
