Treatment Options Paper LENGTH OF PAPER: 4-5 pages, double-spaced (this does not include the cover page or reference page) DIRECTIONS:  Imagine that you are the parent of a child/adolescent who has recently been diagnosed with a psychological disorder. Now, to determine the next course of action, you have
decided to do some research on the available treatments options for your child’s diagnosis.  The purpose of this paper is to research the available treatment options for a specific disorder. You may choose to do this paper on any disorder that is covered in your textbook (you may not choose more than one disorder). Your task is to research the possible treatment options for this disorder from the perspective of a parent. You will then choose a treatment option and justify the reasons you chose this treatment. FORMAT:  The use of APA format is required for the purpose of this paper. The following aspects of your paper MUST be written in APA format:
o Cover Page
o Reference Page
o In-Text Citations (information not properly cited = plagiarism)
o Size 12-font, Times New Roman, Double-Spaced, 1-inch margins
o Please refer to the APA Format Handout located on Blackboard (under “Course
Documents”) to assist you in understanding how to use APA format

o An abstract is NOT required.
o While the correct use of APA format requires the use of third-person perspective (i.e.
no use of “I”), it is not necessary for you to abide by this in your paper. You may write your paper using first-person perspective, speaking as the parent of your child/adolescent. RESOURCES REQUIRED (minimum of 4): 1. Textbook 2. Minimum of one (1) peer-reviewed scholarly journal article that focuses on treatment(s) for your selected disorder.  Suggestions:
o Use the library’s online databases (PsycArticles, ProQuest, EBSCOhost, JSTOR)
o Be sure that you select “Full Text” when searching
o See me if you need help finding appropriate resources. 2. Minimum of two (2) additional reputable resources that focus on treatment(s) for your selected disorder.
o Acceptable resources: books, scholarly journals, government sources, legitimate news sources (e.g. New York Times, Psychology Today), reputable scientific websites (e.g. www.apa.org, www.psychologicalscience.org, http://www.nimh.nih.gov/index.shtml)
o Unacceptable resources: wikis (e.g. wikipedia), personal blogs, discussion boards, disreputable websites. CONTENT: 1. Cover page (1 page) 2. Introduction (1-2 paragraphs):  Introduce and describe your child/adolescent.  Describe the purpose of this paper. 2. Brief description of diagnosis (1-2 paragraphs):  What led to the diagnosis of your child (e.g. developmental delay, problems in school, problems at home  be creative)?  Briefly describe the diagnosis of your child. 3. Thorough description of the available treatment options (2-3 pages):  A minimum of three (3) treatment options must be discussed
 Each treatment option must be described in detail, including efficacy, possible side effects, and limitations.
 You must explain these treatment options in your own words, demonstrating that you fully comprehend each. In addition, please offer your own opinions, insights and speculations regarding each treatment option. 4. Selection and discussion of your preferred treatment option (1 page):  The focus of this section of your paper must be to explain why this is your preferred treatment option.  You may choose a combination of treatment options, but be sure that your rationale for combining them is sound and perhaps even supported by research. 5.
