United States and Russia Combat Nuclear Terrorism

United States and Russia Combat Nuclear Terrorism

Project description
Reducing the risk of domestic and international terrorism is a difficult task. Particularly, since nuclear
terrorism is the most immediate and extreme threat to global security; new international efforts have been
implemented to prevent against such terrorism. The United States government has worked both domestically and in
partnership with other countries, particularly Russia, to address the threat of terrorism. The collaboration
increased mutual confidence in the nuclear field, by establishing regular contact between Russian and U.S. nuclear
government experts and nuclear scientists, which increased the overall nuclear security technologies and
procedures. Combining a number of features to ensure the success of US-Russia cooperative programs will provide
sustainability for potential multilateral cooperation. These features include reliance on original technology and
knowledge, to improve cost-sharing between partners, an infrastructure for human capacity building, and a clear
security collaboration that would allow for tangible benefits. Ultimately, all parties need to recognize the
benefits of cooperation. Therefore this paper will examine in what ways the Russian government combined its efforts
with the United States to prevent terrorism.

The relationship between the United States and Russia over the last two to three decades has grown in an
exceptional effort to secure nuclear weapons.
