Select a story about someone who has experienced a current or past traumatic event (i was thinking the earthquake/tsunami incident in japan march,2011).  After providing appropriate informed consent, you will conduct an interview with someone (a friend or relative is appropriate)( i was thinking of using as an example a friend who was in japan for vacation during the event)  who has survived a natural disaster and complains of symptoms that might suggest traumatic stress. For this paper, role-playing would be appropriate.  As part of the evaluation, you will administer and score all of the instruments in the Toolkit and include the results in your final report.These are the following:

TRS (Trauma Recovery Scale) [page 23-24]
DES (Dissociative Experience Scale)[ page 25-28]
DRS (Dissociative Regression Scale) [page 29]
IES (Impact of Events Scale) [page 30]
SWLS (Satisfaction with Life Scale) [page 31]
CAPS (clinician-administered PTSD scale) [page 5-22]

The above papers should be no less than ten (10) complete pages. The use of non-sexist and professional language is expected and papers must be proofread carefully prior to submission.  Guidelines regarding non-sexist language are available in the Publication Manual (6th Edition) of the American Psychological Association.

The topic of the final paper is a Psychotraumatology Evaluation [Review pages 53 – 73 (TTT) to become familiar with the Psychotraumatology Evaluation].  You must use all sections of the template in TTT.  You need to write a professional evaluation (refer to Dr. Gentry’s example in TTT found in pages 66-73).  example of what needs to be done in blank on pages 60-65

1.    You must thoroughly describe the presenting problem(s) including history and symptom progression.
2.    Medical and family histories must be included.
3.    You must discuss the trauma profile and how you arrived at your decision.
4.    There must be a complete mental status exam.
5.    You must discuss client strengths and resources.
6.    You must include treatment goals.
7.    There must be a multi-axial DSM diagnosis with justification which discusses post traumatic stress (if you have not taken a DSM course, contact the professor).
8.    There must be, at least, a preliminary treatment plan.
