Sampling Assignment
For this assignment, you will be conducting your own sampling exercise. The purpose of this exercise is to demonstrate how research results can vary and be biased, based on a number of factors. Such factors must be taken into consideration, when making a generalization about a population based on a sample.
Instructions
For the span of about a half hour, observe the entrance to a local mall or another shopping location. (Really, you can do this anywhere!) Log the gender, race, and approximate age of the individuals entering the mall or store. Using this information, identify possible sampling errors, based on the factors presented in your readings and others you can identify, such as the type of store and time of day or night. Then, create a simple Excel spreadsheet to present your data. Within the spreadsheet, write a brief narrative of your conclusions.
