The psychopath
Reflection paper – The psychopath is not mentally ill; he is evil
Prepare a 2,000 word response. You might agree or you might disagree, but, either way, yours should not be a simple yes/no response. Rather, it should be a thoughtful, deliberative reaction. I would encourage you to begin with a careful reading of the question – savour it – and then consider the relevant course reading(s). As you read the question and the readings, take notes and think about both your affective and cognitive reactions. What ideas does the reading spark? What memories does it stir? How does it make you feel? I would encourage you to then think about relevant classroom lectures and tutorial discussions and to take the same kind of notes. Then, perhaps, think about your own personal experiences and take an analogous set of notes on these. Think about the statement from multiple perspectives – what would someone with a contrary viewpoint to you think? At this point, it might be helpful to organise the basic structure of your reflection, making sure to include an introduction, clearly related paragraphs that make use of topic sentences, and a conclusion that makes clear what you have learned. Once this basic structure is in place, you should engage in some independent research on your topic, and see what others have written. You can start with a simple search engine search, but your research should be based upon scholarly sources (e.g., books published by reputable presses, articles from peer-reviewed journals, and sources from governments or reputable non-governmental organisations). The number of sources is up to you (and depends on the nature of your reflection)
All references used should be included with in-text parenthetic citations and bibliographic details should be included on a separate references page (and these count toward your word count).
