Assessment Type Report
Purpose On completion of this assignment the student should be able to:
– Reading, interpreting and understanding the purpose of
architectural and engineering drawings.
– Visualise the sequence of the construction process
incorporating labour and
– Materials
– Draft a set of construction sections through elements of a low
rise commercial building.
– Sequencing the construction process.
– Principles of material handling.
– Selection and incorporation of labour into the construction
process.
Description Using a systematic and appropriate approach to examine the
technical drawing provided to prepare construction feasibility
study report for client. The report should contain;
• Identify building elements, their functionality and material
• Description of building element functio nality and material
• Graphical information such as photos and 3D hand sketch (CAD
sketch/drawing is optional) section details of the identify building
elements
• Comprehensive step by step explanation (using drawings and
diagrams to illustrate) the const ruction process. These included but
not limited to project planning, site planning, material handling
methods, construction process until commissioning and hand-over.
• A professional format written including such qualities as
structuring sections and paragraphs to bring out a sound
professional discussion, control of the conciseness and relevance
of the discussion, and to use appropriate citation and referencing
techniques.

Scenario:

You are a construction manager working for a construction management firm working on
Child Care Centre project. Up to this stage in the construction project all of the construction
drawings include Architectural, Structure, Mechanical, Hydraulic and Electrical have been
issued. The drawings have been uploaded onto BlackBoard  Course Material 
Assignment 3 folder

As a construction manager you have been assigned to prepare construction plan report for
“Construction Stage”. This construction plan report should describe what activities that needs
to be carried out in order to ex ecute construction stage and sequence /ordering of those
activities.

The report should include;

1. An executive summary: which should include an introduction to your client outlining
what the report contains
2. Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) descriptions to explain work/sub work/tasks and
activ ities involve in “Construction Stage” which should cover all site preparation
building structure and MEP works.
3. Put these tasks /activities in a Gantt chart format and indicate sequence of these
tasks /activities described in Work Breakdown Structure.
4. Provide 2 cross section detail hand sketch drawings (CAD sketch/drawing is
optional) and indicate where the section plane is on the drawing provided. These
sketches have to be your own. Image copy form internet or text book are not
permitted.
5. Each section detail sketch has to cover structure and MEP work.
6. Conclusion

Submission referencing: All sources must be referenced appropriately, and all figures and
tables must be numbered, titled and integrated into the body of the report. Harvard

This course places a high value on the development of students’ academic and professional
writing including such qualities as structuring sections and paragraphs to bring out a sound
professional discussion, control of the conciseness and relevance of the discussion, ability to
summarise and critique the arguments of pertinent writers, and to use appropriate citation and
referencing techniques.
Given these expectations, please note that the report should achieve the obje ctives within 15
pages, including notes, diagrams, tables, figures, footnotes and reference list. The
assessment criteria for this assignment refers to particular qualities of written work including
clarity and conciseness of style, identification of issue s, structuring of argument, development
of solution/s, evidence of critical and relevant reading, depth of analysis, explication of
assumptions, integration of interpretations and so on.
Submission format: Use a report format with a numerical hierarchy (or otherwise) of
headings and subheadings as demonstrated in this document. Use an A4 type written format
with a signed copy of the Assessment Cover Sheet as the front cover of your assignment. All
assignments are to be accompanied by the relevant individual or group assignment cover
sheet. These can be found at

Work submitted without the standard University cover sheet will not be marked.
Electronic Submissions :
For electronic submissions it is advisable that you cut and paste your written assignment into
the Assessment Cover Sheet file, not the other way and rename the file as
<YOURSURNAME INITIAL COURSE CODE.doc> or <YOURSURNAME INITIAL
COURSE CODE.pdf>. The f ile size can be an issue when submitting through Turnitin. You
are advised to review the size of your file ensuring it is below 1.0MB. If you are including
photographs and other digital graphic media it is recommended that you adopt processes
(Photoshop, P owerPoint etc.) to reduce it to 72dpi format. It is important to note that
electronic submissions will be marked in their electronic form for this course. It is the
responsibility of the student to ensure that any files submitted are in a Microsoft/Mac Word
or Adobe format or are readable or compatible with these formats. THERE WILL BE NO
HARDCOPY SUBMISSIONS! The length is 15 pages (maximum) including reference.
