AAVE in the Disney movie The Princess and the Frog

This research paper will present an analysis of the linguistic features of African American Vernacular English (Black English, Ebonics), employing appropriate theoretical and methodological approaches. The writing should be as specific and clear as possible in proving this argument. The thesis and focus must be analytical in nature; you will not summarize your topic, or merely describe the texts, genre, or language variety you are studying, nor will you base your thesis and points on the ideas and analytical perspectives of scholars. Instead, you will support and inform your own argument about the topic with rich and relevant direct evidence from the primary texts (at least two) and from your credible secondary scholarly sources (at least seven). This paper should be a linguistic analysis and not a literary analysis.

Thesis should state something like: “AAVE is identified through A, B, and C characteristics as evident in Disney’s first feature film starring a Black heroine.”

Points that should be analyzed: Sentence patterns, cohesion, rhythm, writers voice, and dialect

Primary sources will be the movie Princess and the Frog and the script of The Princess and the Frog for the movie.

A Secondary source that should be used is: Rhetorical Grammar 7th ed by Martha Koln and Loretta Gray
