Scenario You are a police officer and your partner wanted to use illegally obtain evidence to look up and send away a criminal whom committed murder. The gun was obtained during a search of his car (the gun was discovered under the seat). Things to consider What will you do if fellow ostracize you and consequently you are on your own in the department? How would you handle a hostile work atmosphere with little, or no, support from your fellow officers in the field? How would you address this situation? If you decide to report your partner’s wrongdoing, what will you do if your supervisors do not care about the illegal actions of your partner due to the apprehension of a murderer? What would you do with no Administrative Support? Question What issues do you see taking place both now and in the future with your partner, other department members, the Administrations, and the community after this incident.
Something to keep in mind There are four different character types in police officers bad character, under controlled character, self-controlled character, and the excellent. A police officer with bad character would be a person that abuses his authority which unfortunately goes on to much today. This type of officer would be an officer that would confiscate drugs and then resell them for his own profit or physically harm and unarmed individual. An uncontrolled officer is similar to a bad officer. These officers are easily pure pressured into becoming bad police officers. Sometimes they fall into the bad side by just knowing they may be able to make more money by breaking the law by dealing drugs or taking a bribe. The self-controlled officer is an officer that knows that people are making huge profits off of breaking the law but does not participate no matter what the profit is. Sometimes these officers can become depressed because they are struggling with doing the right thing. The officer who upholds the oath he or she swore by would be the excellent officer. This is a police officer who is secured loyal and true blue if you will. They do not care about money, they care about honesty.
