Analysis of east asian film

Assignment: Choose an East Asian feature film that we have not viewed in this class and produce a 5-7 page paper in which you provide a thorough analysis of the film, including elements of both content and form. You should also include a succinct summary of the film. The analysis should be your own and should not refer to any secondary sources. You should choose a film that possesses genuine artistic merit and one that was produced in East Asia by an East Asian director. Your film can be from any period and may be a film by a director whose work we have already seen or may be the work of someone whose work we have not seen. Your film must be approved by the instructor. Please keep in mind that sophisticated film, like literature, requires more than one viewing to begin to appreciate its purpose beyond merely the plot. You will need to view your film(s) with this in mind. Your paper should be well written and carefully edited. This paper is a formal piece of writing which means that it should be polished and clearly the result of a writing process.
