Anthropology project #4
For this small science project we are going to test Bergman’s Rule, Allen’s Rule, Nose Length, and
Lactose Tolerance.
We should use our data gathering abilities to test these models. Are they correct????
Look at the data entered here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AlH9T_UEm0fCdC1FMzd4R1NNSXNaRnFQYnhKY0hqU2c&usp=sharing#gid=0
We need to take measurements
and then assess as near as possible the person’s ancestry. If there are parents and grandparents from
more than one place, then let’s ask which they feel most tied to (or put both in 2 columns).
Next analyze the data in reference to the models, check out Prof Connell’s weekly lecture which
describes them. Does your analysis support or refute these assertions and why? Are there other
patterns that you can identify in the data that haven’t been considered? What other studies would you
conduct in order to test your ideas about the variability across humankind?
Sounds like a fun science project. Remember, the best papers present analysis using the data to support
the ideas. For example, the average nose length of each grouping is such and such, which does not support the argument.
