Why do figure scenes appear on geometric vases?

The essay needs to evaluate the Geometric period of Greece and examine the figurative scenes on geometric vases, the techniques used, some iconography as well as its connection to the wider social context of the development of Geometric Greece acropolis. This is for an elective course which i am taking for only 1 semester, so preferably not too well written so that it’s believable that a student who doesn’t have that much knowledge in the area wrote it.
Essay needs to be footnoted, and with bibliography and illustration (pictures of specific vases refered to by the essay) Preferably the sources will include at least three from the following:

1. Boardman, J. (1983), Symbol and story in Geometric art, in W.G. Moon (ed). Ancient Greek Art and Iconography, Madison, 15-36.

2. Carter, J. (1972), The first figure scenes in Greek art, Annual of the British School at Athens 67, 25-58.

3. Coldstream, J.N. (1977, repr. 2003), Geometric Greece: 900-700, New York

4. Snodgrass, A.M. (1987), The first figure scenes in Greek art, in A.M. Snodgrass (ed.), An Archaeology of Greece, Berkeley, 132-69

5. Snodgrass, A. (1998), Homer and the Artists: Text and Picture in Early Greek Art

The reference style is Harvard reference.
