BE AN ART PHILOSOPHER. Must be at least four full pages (about 1,000 words). Read
the introductory chapter in the textbook “Adventure in the human spirit seventh adddition”. “An Invitation to Adventure” (pages 15-29). Read the
short sections on each kind of art. Get familiar with all the different art forms, and think about
your experience with any or all of these arts. Then, decide which art form you believe is the
most important! Artists throughout history have declared particular art forms to be above all
others. Leonardo da Vinci said painting is the noblest art, while Michelangelo said sculpture is
the highest art form. What do you think? Craft a philosophy about one art form that expresses
your ideas and convictions about why you think that art form is the greatest. Give personal
examples of your involvement in the art form, how this art form has affected your life, and the
world. If you had only one art form to take with you to a deserted island, which would it be? If
you could become a performer or artist, which artistic path would you take? And why? (Don’t
just say, “Because it’s cool.” Or “Because I like it.”) I’m looking for critical thinking, analysis and
insights.
