ASSESSMENT IN THE CLASSROOM

ASSESSMENT IN THE CLASSROOM

Select a grade level and/or content area to be used as the focus of this assessment. Identify two teachers in that grade level and/or content area to interview and observe in order to explore the teaching/learning/assessment cycle in practice that you identified in LASA 1 as best representing your own style. Interview the two teachers as to the implementation of the cycle into their classroom. Discuss the types of criterion and non-criterion assessments they use during the cycle. Include in the interview a discussion of the positives and negatives of this approach as it relates to the specific student population and meeting every student’s needs. Conduct a classroom observation during which the identified teachers implement part of this cycle. Reflect on the identified cycle, the assessments and its effectiveness. As a result of the interviews, observations and you reflection, create a PowerPoint presentation and speakers notes that address the following:
1.Identify and explain critical points of the teaching/learning cycle observed.
2.Identify the criterion-referenced assessment instruments use in the classrooms for each critical point in the learning cycle. Include an explanation of the appropriateness and validity of the assessments in meeting the needs of all students in the class.
3.Discuss the improvements/changes to these assessments that you would make in your classroom and why. Provide examples.
4.Identify alternative assessments relevant to your classroom that you would include. Identify where they would fit into the teaching/learning cycle. Provide examples.
5.Discuss how the data generated from this cycle would be used to measure academic or non-academic objectives.
6.Create a PowerPoint presentation that communicates your conclusions. Includes your speaker’s notes.
