Each team will consist of four individuals. These students will decide who is allocated what part of the work, but then should send me a short memo telling me how they will divide this work. (see instructions for Part 1.)
You will use the information in Chapter 17, Financial Statement Analysis, to perform both a horizontal and vertical analysis on the companies whose information is shown in Appendix A: Arctic Cat, KTM, and Piaggio. The fourth company, Polaris, is used as an example in Chapter 17, on how to do these analyses. For the horizontal analysis, you will be analyzing for just one year (most recent year versus the previous year, as shown in the examples), but for the vertical analysis, you will be analyzing for two years. Use the Demonstration Problem in Chapter 17 as a model for how to perform the analysis for these companies. I suggest that you designate one team member to be in charge of each of the 3 companies other than Polaris.
For Part 2 of this project, I will ask the 3 people in charge their companies to perform the horizontal and vertical analysis for their company, and then send it to the 4th person, who will paste their work on to 3 different tabs in an excel spreadsheet and upload this raw data to me. The main purpose of this is to keep you on track for the project and to give the 4th person ample time to finish her/his part of the project.
