Assignment:

You have been working extensively with many different accounts of the US’s bombings of Japan in World War II. Your work up to this point has allowed you to consider what people say, how they say it, and what is most important about the perspectives on this historical moment. Now it is time for you to add your own argument to the established critical conversation about the bombings.

In this paper, you will make an argument about which of the sources most honestly and accurately describes and interprets the atomic bombs in WWII. In order to make this argument, you will first have to give your readers general historical information about the event, and then describe the “conversation” that is occurring among scholars of this historical occurrence as we have read them. Once you have contextualized the current academic conversation surrounding these events, you will then make an argument using textual evidence that explains which source most accurately illustrates to readers what you find most essential about this historical moment. . Your paper will rely heavily on analysis and evidence.
