basics of measurement

Lesson 7 examined the basics of measurement when it comes to personnel selection. This activity will allow you to apply your knowledge gained this week to the job that you analyzed back in Lesson 3. Based on the information gained from your analysis, please write a paper that addresses the following:

1. Choose 1 predictor that will be used to make selection decisions for your job. Additionally, choose 1 criterion that your selection measure will predict. After describing the predictor and criterion explain why you chose each. You should discuss how each is based on your job analysis. For the criterion, describe both the ultimate and actual criterion as well as how you will ensure high relevance, low deficiency, and low contamination.

2. Describe a selection instrument that will be used to measure the attribute you hope to use to predict your criterion. Describe what kind of instrument this is (i.e., test, work sample, etc.) and why you wish to use this instrument. You do NOT actually need to develop a measure—simply describe it.

3. Describe at least two methods you will utilize to determine if your measure is reliable. Why did you choose these methods?

4. Describe at least two different ways that you could validate your instrument. Why did you choose these methods?

5. Describe at least one method that describes how you will use the scores on your instrument in order to make selection decisions. Why did you choose this method?
