Behaviour Change

Behaviour Change

Trans-Theoretical Model of Change (The Stages of Change Model) (Prochaska & DiClemente,1984)

The Stages of Change model is good in helping people with addictive behaviour such as drinking, smoking…..

The cycle is cyclical and repetitive in nature, like a revolving door.

You can linger at one stage for any length of time and move back and forth within the cycle.

You can exit the cycle to maintain change and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

What stage is this person in?

How would you assess readiness to change?

How can you help this person?

How do you motivate them?

Somebody who likes to drink and does not feel that there is anything wrong with it.

Somebody who smokes 20 cigarettes a day, has tried to stop a few times but failed. S/he comes to you and asks for help.

Somebody knows that eating unhealthy food is not good. S/he has decided to eat a healthy diet, but too busy at lunch time during work and too tired to cook after work.
