Case study resilience

Assessment task 1: Case study resilience Weighting 50% Length 2000 words (report + essay) excluding tables and graphs Learning outcomes 1 & 2 Graduate Attributes 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5
Directions
Negotiate with a client/community member to complete a resilience assessment. You may use either one of the resilience assessment tool?s available in the resilience learning material or one that you already have access to.
This participant could be someone from your clinical practice or it could be someone you personally know.
It is essential that your participant is provided with a copy of the information sheet explaining this learning activity. You may need to read and explain this information sheet. The information sheet is available in the assessment resources folder in MyLO. When submitting your case study you are required to include a declaration that you have provided and explained this information sheet to your participant.
There is no need to include any participant personal data in this assessment. Please ensure that your participant understands that all involvement is voluntary, is for learning purposes, and they do not need to answer any question they choose.
Once you have completed the assessment you are to firstly write a report on your interpretation of the results of your resilience assessment. You can also include the results as per the assessment tool?s guidelines e.g. numerical scores across different domains with appropriate interpretation of the score.
Secondly in an essay discuss the bioecological determinants that you assess as having an influence on resilience in this person?s life. Demonstrate your understanding of the concept of resilience by relating various domains of resilience that you identify acting as protective or risk factors for health outcomes to the Person-Process-Context-Time model of the Bioecological Theory of Human Development.
Marking Criteria
Demonstrates ability to follow specific instructions in writing up a resiliency assessment report through completion and documentation of all required components/results appropriate according to the assessment tool utilised
Demonstrates understanding of resilience through interpretation and discussion of results of resilience assessment (across report and essay)

Your assessment task is to write a report on resilience using the case study as an example. You may start by presenting the ?findings? from your assessment. Talk about the areas where the person demonstrates strengths and areas of risk. For example they may have good connections to others in their family but not so strong connections with people in the wider community. Secondly you can then write a discussion paper on resilience discussing the bioecological theory of human development and embed examples from your case. Lerner M. Richhard (2005) identified the model that has emerged from the Bioecological Theory of Human Development has four interrelated components:
?the developmental process (the relationships between the individual and the context)
?the person (biological, psychological, social, emotional, behavioural and spiritual characteristics)
?the context (conceptualized as the nested systems of the ecology)
?time (change across the life course)
You could structure your essay around these four components and explore the process, person and context of the person you assessed. You could also propose actions to improve the wellbeing of your participant.
