Fantasy illustrated book for middle readers (grade 3-8)

MUST relate DIRECTLY to promoting cultural awareness or diversity in some way.
Meeting Standards:
• The book must promote sense-based, active exploration of the students environment
• The book must promote activities that are self-directed and hands-on learning practices that are balanced with the activities directed by the teacher
• The books must promote supportive and regular interactions among the children and between them and teachers
• The book must promote continuous assessments and observations that inform the subsequent programs adopted in learning
• The book must strike a balance between group and individual activities.

IN THIS ORDER:
1. Provide a short summary of the selected book (2-3 sentences per book)
2. Analyze how the selected book can provide opportunities for children to understand themselves and their relationship to either their community or the larger world around them or both. Provide ONE specific example from the selected book that supports your analysis. (one paragraph)
3. Analyze how the selected book offers positive representation of cultural awareness or diversity. Provide ONE specific example from the selected book that supports your analysis. (one paragraph)
4. Justify how the selected book meets ONE of your generated criteria from “Meeting Standards” for choosing children’s books. (one SHORT paragraph)
