As you read and take notes on this article, identify the subject of the article, the occasion that prompted its composition, the intended audience, and the purpose the writer hoped to accomplish in writing it.

•Identify the article by title, date, and author in the first paragraph of your summary
•Avoid quoting the article directly; employ the technique of summary to report the main ideas of the article in your own words
•Avoid taking a position on the subject or argument presented; maintain objectivity in reporting the information you have read

•Follow the conventions of Standard American English (correct grammar, punctuation, etc.)
•Include a title page with full name, class name, section number, and date
•Include an introductory and concluding paragraph and demonstrate college-level communication through the composition of original materials in Standard American English
