The purpose of this assignment is to analyze a small group found in a film. This paper should be based on chapters 9 & 10 in your textbook.There are specific aspects of small groups that I will ask you to address but I HIGHLY ENCOURAGE you to read both chapters completely before you begin work on your paper.
This paper is worth 30 points and here is the breakdown:
Movie selection submission (To be submitted by Thursday, February 11th before midnight.You can find the submission link under this week)- I have posted a list of potential movie choices to help you generate ideas, but you’re welcome to choose other appropriate films 5 points
Identify and describe the group:Who composes this group? You should give a detailed rundown of all the members in this small group, their names, relationship to each other, age, occupation, whatever you feel is a necessary background. Using terms from the book you should also identify what type of group you’re observing. This introductory paragraph should also include a brief synopsis of the film. 5 points
Healthy groups- Using the characteristics of healthy groups found in section 9-2, determine if the group you are observing is a healthy group. 5 points
Problem solving/Decision making- Is there a standard for how solve problems or does it change with each situation? Do they use any of the steps of systematic problem solving? How does this group then make their decisions? How does this style of decision making affect the group morale and the group effectiveness? 5 points
Conflict management- What happens when the group has a problem or experiences conflict? What type of conflict is exhibited? How does it affect the group? 5 points
Writing- Your paper should be well edited, clear and concise. I expect it to take between 1500-2000 words to adequately cover this topic. I would like 4 distinct sections covering each required element. 5 points
Keep in mind that you are not just giving your opinion. You MUST use the terms and ideas from the book to write this paper. Each section should incorporate terms from the book and specific examples from the film.

These are just a few suggestions, there are many, many other great options. Some guidelines for picking a movie:
There should be 3 or more people in the group, but no more than 10.
The movie needs to focus on a cohesive group, for example although the film “Crash” has many characters that interact, they are not a group.
It’s easiest to spot a group by looking for an assembly of people who have a common goal they are working to achieve.
