Directions for each proposal:
Location Proposal
For this document, you will write a proposal to the management team recommending a location for the
picnic. This is a solicited, internal proposal. You will need to consider availability of parking (or shuttle
buses if there isn’t enough parking), shelter in case of bad weather, places to cook or serve food, cost,
etc. Include whatever information you need to persuade the group that this is the best place for the picnic.
Remember to include a short paragraph at the end of this document describing, as specifically as you
can, your audience, purpose, and message strategy.
Fireworks Proposal
In this document, you will write a proposal to the local government requesting permission for a fireworks
extravaganza after the picnic. This is an unsolicited, external proposal. Provide sufficient information to
persuade the local government to grant you a permit for the show.
Remember to include a short paragraph at the end of this document describing, as specifically as you
can, your audience, purpose, and message strategy.
Memo
Write a memo to the Picnic Planning Committee, informing them of their first meeting. Because it is the
first meeting, you will want to provide some brief background about the event.
Remember to include a short paragraph at the end of this document describing, as specifically as you
can, your audience, purpose, and message strategy.
E-Mail
Write a follow-up e-mail to the Picnic Planning Committee, after the first meeting, reminding everyone of
their assignments. Submit this email in the form of a Microsoft Word document.
Remember to include a short paragraph at the end of this document describing, as specifically as you
can, your audience, purpose, and message strategy.
Business Letter to Caterer
Write a formal business letter to a caterer seeking their services for your picnic. Let them know what your
needs are. Use full-block format.
Remember to include a short paragraph at the end of this document describing, as specifically as you
can, your audience, purpose, and message strategy.
Progress Report
It is only one month to the picnic, and you need to write a progress report to the management team.
Include budget information, what has been done, and a timeline for accomplishing what needs to be
done.
Remember to include a short paragraph at the end of this document describing, as specifically as you
can, your audience, purpose, and message strategy.
Instructions for Using Charcoal Grills
The park (or whatever location you have chosen) only has charcoal grills, and the caterers have only
used gas grills before. They have asked you, someone who is widely praised for your grilling expertise, to
write them instructions for using charcoal grills. The instructions should start with preparing the meat for
the grill, and end with putting the finished dish out on the serving line.
Remember to include a short paragraph at the end of this document describing, as specifically as you
can, your audience, purpose, and message strategy.
