Please answer all of the following essay questions. 1. What types of criminal justice clients (offenders) are the most appropriate for a probation sentence? What types of offenders are controversial candidates for probation? Why?
2. What are correctional boot camps? Why are some correctional boot camps more effective than other correctional boot camps? Do you believe that correctional boot camps are effective? Why or why not?
3. There are many different factors that are used to determine an offender?s parole date. Two of those factors that are used are the salient factor score and an offense severity rating. Please explain and define what both of these tools are and how they are used to determine an offender?s parole date.
4. You are a Probation Officer working for the state of Delaware and one of the offender?s on your caseload has just admitted to you during one of your bi-weekly meetings that their last UDS (urine drug screen) is going to be positive for drugs. What do you do and why are you going to do this?
5. How did parole develop in the United States? Please be sure to include how the Irish system and the indeterminate sentence impacted the development of parole as well. In addition, please explain whether or not you believe that parole is effective or ineffective and why?
6. Using the restorative justice approach, what would you require as a sentence for a 16 year old offender who forcefully broke a car window to steal an I-Pod and an I-Pad, valued at approximately $1000 total. The car that was broken into belonged to a special education teacher that used the I-pod and I-pad as resources for her students. (Please be sure to explain and justify your sentence).
